Vaginal bleeding that starts a year or more after your last menstrual cycle is known as postmenopausal bleeding. It may indicate changes in your reproductive system, polyps (noncancerous growths), or dry vagina. Bleeding after menopause is indicative of uterine cancer in approximately 10% of women. The bleeding that happens after menopause is called postmenopausal bleeding. Around age 51, a woman enters the menopause, a phase of life during which her monthly menstrual cycles cease and her levels of reproductive hormones decline. It is abnormal for vaginal bleeding to start more than a year after a woman has missed her period. There may be minor (spotting) or severe bleeding.
